Materials, substances and elements in new forms and new relations. The heart of craftsmanship is the encounter between matter and vision. The gesture is the means and gives life to both. Below, some production stages of the model No. 61 (Tuscany, 17th century).
Each frame, smooth or carved, comes from a simple plank of wood, formed in the desired shape.
Roughing gouges and chisels carve the wood in classic style motifs and lines.
The graphed and carved shapes are joined together: the frame is born. But the surface is still rough wood...
Plaster and glue refine the structure and equip the frame for the subsequent stages of gilding.
Bole, an earthy clay, is brushed on the plastered frame: the gold leaf will adhere to it.
Gold leaf in pure gold, cut and transferred to the surface, ennobles and embellishes the frame.
Rubbing the agate stone on the precious gold leaf gives the characteristic reflectiveness of the gold.
